Introduction:

Greenwave is one who is the first or among the earliest in the field of biodegradable products, Greenwave is also the first to introduce bagasse to the United States. Greenwave Inc. was founded in 2001. their aim is to turn the disposable food service market into biodegradable products using a product called bagasse. Greenave products are made of health conscious natural fiber such as maize, sugarcane, grass, and reed plasma. the products , within three months degrade into fragments and totally degrade into non-toxic non-polluting residue with in a year. after products are used they can be excellent compost. the products are 100% compostable, 100% biodegradable.


Composition of products:

Greenwave products are composed of 85% cornstarch, 8% chitosan and 7% edible additives. Degradation of the products and the optimal temperature for biodegrading is at 77-82.4 degrees Fahrenheit with relative humidity of 90%. The that it takes to degrade is dependent on the thickness of the product. under natural conditions Greenwave products take 3 months to degrade into fragments and they fully degrade within 1 year. the fact that the product does not contain the content pp (polypropylene) which is a thermal polymer and burning the product does not release toxins or harm the environment. In the United States about 20% of solid waste is from polymers. The presence of these substances in the environment brings up a really big issue in dealing with wastewater treatment plants and pollution of groundwater and surface water. The negative influence on the environment that synthetic polymers cause many problems in waste deposition and utilization.

The major advantages of biodegradable polymers

  • They can be composted with organic waste and returned to enrich soil.
  • Reduce injuries to wild animals caused by dumping of conventional plastics.
  • They are degraded naturally, their composition will help increase the longevity and stability of landfills by reducing the volume of garbage.
  • Lessen the labor cost for the removal of plastic waste in the environment.
  • Could be recycled to useful monomers and oligomers by microbial and enzymatic treatment.
