I am looking for information about greening a mordant dye activity.

Students are given several natural fibers (cotton, wool, silk) and several synthetic fibers (rayon, nylon, polyester) to dye with crystal violet, malachite green, and methyl orange. Each fabric is treated with mordant (iron sulfate) and then dyed, Each fabric is also dyed without the mordant. Students are asked to determine with a qualitative comparison which technique is colorfast.

Student objectives for this lab are:
Background discussion of textile industry in New Hampshire (Amoskage Mills)
Demonstration of polarity.
Using a mordants
Mordant use industry
Qualitative Analysis of visual data

This activity is demonstrated k-8 and designed and conducted by students at the 9-12.
